Every year Awake & Alive hosts a trip to Ethiopia. Not all trips have the same goal, but they all include a visit to Bright Future Academy. Spending time with the children shows them in a tangible way that they have our support and love.
In addition, showing the children and the community our support is breaking the negative perception of Kechene. Many Ethiopians believe that the Kechene region is cursed with poverty and that the curse can be passed by looking at the people of Kechene (commonly called the “evil eye”). Our support shows surrounding communities that the people of Kechene are not cursed and have the ability to break the cycle of poverty.
