I am the father of Bereket.
Before Bereket started school, I was so worried about my child as my poor living situation did not allow me to send him to school.
I was just begging for money on the street. I was so concerned about him.
In the beginning of the school year, I went to Bright Future Academy and asked them to accept my boy. They told me that first they want to check my living situations and realities around me and my family. (Bright Future only enrolls children living in extreme poverty) I will never forget the day I got a call from the school telling me that my Bereket was accepted. It was August 31/2015 at around 5:00 pm.
I had heard about the good reputation of the school and all the benefits it had been providing to children in the program. When I realized that Bereket was going to be a beneficiary of the school, I felt so happy. That was the peak of happiness in my life, until now.
I believe that my child has a strong foundation for life. When he was a KG student, he was able to read the bus numbers for me. And he was also able to tell me the numbers on a mobile card so that I can charge my mobile. My wife, who is also blind, and I were now able to become mobile and our worlds opened up.
This gave me hope and inspiration. I decided to go to school as well. Because I went back to school, I could not beg on the streets anymore. I was not able to afford to pay house rent, school transportation or feed my family. Then I went to the Bright Future Academy administration and explained all my needs and I got financial support for house rent and transportation on a monthly basis until I finish my schooling.
I graduated three ago and started working. I no longer need the financial support from Bright Future. I am now a teacher and I am paying my house rent and providing for my family. For all these good life changes Bright Future played a crucial role.
