The Other Side of International Education

Understanding international affairs is essential in a shrinking world. Awake & Alive believes it is just as essential for children to learn about the world outside of international business.

Our children are the future, and we believe they can change the world and help others do the same. This starts with awareness of educational inequality throughout the world. That’s where we come in. We have prepared a lesson plan that helps children understand the inequalities in education and how they can help change it. The lesson includes ideas and tools needed for children to participate in fundraising and, ultimately, changing the lives of children just like them. Let’s get started! Caps for Kids

We understand that students in the U.S. are often held to a strict dress code that they wish was different. This is their chance to change that, and change lives at the same time.

Our Caps for Kids project allows students to wear hats to school if they pay a fee, which will fund a child’s education in Ethiopia—a child that would not otherwise have access to a school. This is a one-day project (or longer) that includes a lesson plan for teachers to share to help students understand educational inequality around the world and how the money raised will change a child’s life forever. It’s a win-win, the children get to change their dress code, learn about the world around them, and children in Ethiopia gain access to education they would not otherwise have. Change for Change

This is a great program for all grades. Change for Change is a fun competition that changes lives.

The Change for Change program sets up a change jar in multiple classrooms. The students then bring in spare change (or not-so-spare if they really want to win) to place in the jar over the course of a week or month. The classroom or team with the most valuable jar at the end of the time frame wins!

To show our appreciation, and to add some motivation, Awake & Alive will provide a pizza party for the winning students. We also suggest implementing the Awake & Alive lesson plan that explains the reason for raising the funds and how it helps the children in Ethiopia.
